J. M. P. In the region of Medio Vinalopó, the only table grapes are grown with a quality figure recognized in Spain: The Protected Designation of Origin «Vina de Pinos Vinalopó.
In total, 2,300 hectares are dedicated to the cultivation of Vinalopó PDO Grapes, which is spread over seven municipalities (Agost, Aspe, Hondón de los Frailes, Hondón de las Nieves, La Romana, Monforte del Cid and Novelda) producing six varieties of white grape (Aledo Ideal, Dominga, Doña María, Rosetti and Victoria) and a variety of black skin (Global Network).
The most peculiar characteristic of these grapes is their paper bagging, a particular dress of paper, that confers to the grains a special characteristics; In addition to growing protected aggressive elements, their natural conditions of aroma and flavour are increased to the maximum when ripening the clusters in the own strain. Another added value of this product is that the bagging and collection are done manually
meaning many casual jobs are created at bagging and harvest time.
In each campaign, about 250 million bags are placed, for which a large amount of labour is used. And from the end of August, with the collection of the earliest varieties until the beginning of January with the later varieties, the work and effort of our farmers make it possible for an excellent, high quality grape to be on our tables.
